5 Tips for a Traditional and Elegant Christmas Table
The holiday season is the perfect time to create a warm atmosphere around a beautifully set table. Here are five essential elements for a successful traditional Christmas table!
1. Table Setting: Elegance and Tradition
To start, create an elegant base by choosing a linen or cotton tablecloth. I often prefer white, a versatile color that complements any style. It's a great opportunity to use your grandmother's tablecloth, or alternatively, you can search in thrift stores, flea markets, or second-hand websites. You'll find treasures and contribute to a good cause by thrifting on the Label Emmaüs site. Then, arrange your plates with silver or brass cutlery for a chic yet understated touch
2. Plates: Craftsmanship and History
Earthenware or porcelain plates are ideal for a successful traditional Christmas table! Opt for a set from French manufacturers like Sarreguemines, Gien, Digoin, Longwy, Saint Amand, or Hamage. For a unique and personalized table, create a composition by mixing various plate patterns or colors in a "Mix & Match" style. They will be the centerpiece of your table decoration, adding authenticity to your Christmas table

3. Glasses and Carafes: Elegance and Refinement
Enhance your table with crystal glasses and engraved glass carafes, perfect for serving festive drinks. Again, don't hesitate to mix different glass designs.
4. Napkins: Delicacy and Presentation
This is THE occasion to bring out cloth napkins! Match them with the colors of the plates or subtly complement the tablecloth's hues. And if in doubt, once again, white is a safe choice. Regarding presentation, I'm not a big fan of overly complicated napkin folding. Instead, I use a simple tie or a ribbon in gold, red, or silver, which can be adorned with fir branches or any other festive decorations (cinnamon sticks, Christmas baubles, stars, etc.).
5. Centerpiece: The Focal Point
Add a centerpiece for a more sophisticated decoration: a floral arrangement, decorative candleholders, or unique centerpieces to capture the festive spirit.
And my final advice, above all: ENJOY!
